My latest read:

Peter and the Sword of Mercy is the 4th book in a series written by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson featuring Peter Pan. The first book (Peter and the Starcatchers) was great fun to read and brings new life to one of my favorite childhood tales. This fourth book was not as good but will still be a hit with children who like a lot of action and fantasy.

I remember watching Mary Martin perform as Peter on the 1950’s-‘60’s t.v. musical productions that also featured Cyril Ritchard as the dastardly Captain Hook. We watched it every year – just like the annual viewing of Wizard of Oz.

I also enjoyed the musical revival with Sandy Duncan in the lead role. I think there was only one airing of the broadway show on t.v. and I really wish it was available on DVD today. She was terrific and the staging was different from the Mary Martin version.

Many years later I actually enjoyed the movie ‘Hook’ starring Robin Williams. I guess I’m just an all-around Peter Pan fan! I wish I’d been able to see Cathy Rigby playing the part on Broadway. From all accounts, she was wonderfully athletic as Peter.
